Should I freeze my credit?
The choice is yours. If you are concerned about data breaches or just want to be proactive in protecting yourself, a security freeze could be the right option.
What is a security freeze?
A security freeze, sometimes referred to as a credit freeze or a consumer report freeze, prevents lenders from checking your FactorTrust credit report. Think of it as having a padlock on your FactorTrust credit report. Remember, if you have a freeze you must remove it to apply for credit.
Please note that this Security Freeze only applies to your FactorTrust credit report and is not shared with the three national credit reporting agencies (TransUnion, Equifax, Experian). Please contact one of them directly to review your security freeze options.
Does a security freeze affect my credit score?
A security freeze will not affect your credit score, just remember to remove the freeze before you apply for a loan.
How long does it take to apply or remove a security freeze when I place it online or by phone?
For the most part, freezes or freeze removals occur in real-time. To be on the safe side, allow for up to 15 minutes, especially if you will be shopping for credit.
What information is required to put a security freeze on my FactorTrust credit file?
If you want to place a security freeze online, you will need to provide your full name, address, phone number, email, and social security number as well as a knowledge-based question-and-answer session to help further confirm your identity.
If you are unable to place the security freeze online, you can request it through the mail or fax. Simply print and complete this form and return it to us along with all the required documents to verify your identity, social security number, and address.
